Unit Description:
This unit is designed for a 7th grade English class. This project is a cross-curricular unit designed to encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and creative skills. The primary focus of this unit is to build upon the student's creative writing skills by using prior knowledge learned in English, history, and science. Incorporating information learned across the curriculum increases comprehension and understanding in each content area. Students will brainstorm and develop a story line as a process of creating an original myth. This unit was designed to engage the students in various social media platforms to expand upon their writing, editing, and communication skills.

Read the information on this page. Visit the Social Media Policy page and set up accounts for the social media and other sites required for this unit. See all of the technologies that we will be using on the Mythology Unit Technology page. View the Technology Tutorials page for extra help on setting up and navigating each of the digital sites for this unit. Then, join the Edmodo group, create your profile, and connect with the group.
Performance and Participation Expectations:
Students are expected to participate on all social media platforms. Guidelines and directions are explained on the technology page of this website. Individual assignments will be posted on Edmodo and should be completed by the due date. This is a collaborate project, so teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving skills are all required.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed based on their participation and contributions on the various social networking platforms. The final outcome of the unit with be a written myth, which explains why something occurs based on the actions of their gods and/or goddesses. In addition to the written assignment, students will create a video or digital image to summarize their story.
Unit Set-up and Process:
This an online social learning unit, created to engage learners in multiple learning styles and enhance student participation. Students will use technology to navigate the course, complete the assignments and learning objectives.

- Establish online networks and collaborate with peer writers on various social media sites
- Participate in online communities and discussions to create connections with other writers to improve your own writing
- Use a variety of technologies to improve the creative writing process
- Write an original creation myth that explain why or how something in nature occurs
- Publish a myth to an online publishing site
- Create a visual representation of the myth (i.e. original digital image or video) on a social media site of the student's choice
