Mythology Unit Technology
In this course, we will utilize technology, specifically social media, to complete assignments, communicate, and collaborate. Below are the technologies that we will use and how we will use them. For tutorials on setting up and using the social media outlined below, view the Technology Tutorial page.
Edmodo - Edmodo will be our main learning environment. Students will access and submit assignments, collaborate with their small groups, participate in synchronous discussions, as well as communicate with their teacher. In Edmodo, students will receive all notifications and updates about the project and assignments. Any discussion based assignments will be in Edmodo, as students will create their own small groups in the Edmodo platform.
Group Code: hhdw7m
Twitter - Twitter will be used to communicate assignment progress. Students will tweet using the unit hashtag to relay topic selection, group information, account names, and more. Students will need to create an account on Twitter and utilize the specific unit hashtag to connect with their group members, classmates, and teachers. Students can easily access all tweets using the unit hashtag by checking the Twitter widget on the class Edublog page.
Unit Hashtag: #Edtech543Myth
Pearltrees - Pearltrees will be used for curating and sharing student research to Diigo. Students will curate content on Greek mythological characters, their characteristics, articles about ancient Greece, articles about the origin of the natural element in your creation myth, and any other content that will be helpful to writing your myth. Each group curation must have a minimum of 10 curated pieces. Students will need to create an account on Pearltrees in order to connect with their classmates (using the "My Network" tool) and "team up" with your group members.
Edublog - Edublog will be our content creation platform. Students will write each of their creative writing assignments on their Edublog page and sort them using tags and categories. Because blogs are excellent platforms for students to create, share, and collaborate original work, students will use their Edublog pages to develop their writing and submit a main aspect of this unit project. Within Edublog, teachers will contribute feedback and evaluation using the comment feature. Students will create group blog pages that are a part of a class blog. On the class blog page, students and teachers will have access to all blog posts and comments using the blog roll and tag cloud widgets. Student tweets using the unit hashtag will also be easily accessible through the Twitter hashtag widget.

Diigo - Diigo will be used for research and social bookmarking. Students will share research on scientific and historical articles relating to the topic of their original creation myth. Students will need to create an account in order to share their research. Then, students will join the class group and post links to the content they curated using Pearltrees. Other research, myths, or inspiration can be shared in the group to help peers develop a better understanding of the background information.

Padlet - Padlet will be our collaborative brainstorming platform. Students will create a visual storyboard in Canvas mode for their creation myth. Students will create their own Padlet accounts and group storyboards. Using Padlet, students will collaborate and utilize their research and creative writing character study to map the plot line of their myth. Each group storyboard should have at least 15 plot points that clearly outline the creation myth's characters, setting, conflict, plot, and resolution.
YouTube - YouTube will be used to share student visuals/videos. Each group will create a visual or video along with their original creation myth. This visual/video will incorporate the historic and scientific background information that contributed to their myth. For presentation purposes, students will link or embed their visual/video in a post with their creation myth. To post the visual to YouTube, one student will need to create an account. Here is a video about posting to YouTube.
